HELENA – Quality programs make it a priority to keep their home-grown talent. Carroll College did that Tuesday, signing soccer players Cailyn Wall and Katie Martin from the state champion Helena High Bengals and Helena Capital star Ashley Carlson.
“I’ve known I wanted to play here since I can remember,” said Wall. “I grew up watching Carroll events, particularly soccer, and now I get to be part of the team.”
“I’ve always gone to Carroll games, since I was 12,” said Carlson. “It’s a really good environment. All the coaches I’ve had here, it’s kind of a no-brainer to me. I love their medical program, too, and I’m just really excited.”
“Their soccer program is super good and it’s in Helena, and I wanted to stay home,” added Martin. “I wanted to stay close to home.”
“We’ve been looking at them for a long time,” said Carroll head coach Dave Thorvilson about his new recruits. “Typically Helena kids like to get out of Helena and sometimes out of the great state of Montana, so I feel very fortunate that all three of them were willing to stay and play for a program like ours at Carroll College.”
The Saints finished 7-8-2 overall last season, going 3-6-2 in the Cascade Conference.
