DILLON — The 10th-ranked Carroll College women’s basketball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first half and couldn’t overcome a large deficit falling to Montana Western (RV) 59-43 Thursday on the road.
The first half was a bad dream that the Saints couldn’t seem to wake from, shooting just 4-27 (14.8 percent) from the field and 1-11 (9.1 percent) from the three-point line.
Carroll scored just five points in the first quarter and four in the second. The Bulldogs took advantage of the struggles and built a 27-9 lead at the break.
Carroll got found their shot in the second half, outscoring UMW 18-16 in the third quarter, and cutting the lead to a little as 14, but it wouldn’t be enough as Western earned the 16-point win.
Bailey Pasta led the Saints with 12 points. Carroll shot significantly better in the second half to improve its shooting percentage to 28.6 percent on 16-56 shooting.
Brianna King scored a game-high 22 points for Western. Britt Cooper added 11, and Paige Holmes scored 10.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Saints as they next travel to No. 18 Lewis-Clark State Saturday at 3 p.m. MST at the Activity Center in Lewiston, Idaho.
