LEWISTON, Idaho – A statement win for (RV) University of Providence women’s basketball over (7) Lewis-Clark State College proves the Lady Argos deserved to be ranked and considered as one of the frontrunners in the Frontier Conference. The 73-56 victory is the fourth straight for UP, including three wins over ranked opponents, and is the Lady Argo’s first win in Lewiston since the 2014-15 season.

A 20-8 first quarter in favor of the Lady Argos set the tone of a night were UP simply shot better and executed its gameplan better than the defending conference champion Warriors.

Freshman post Parker Esary was UP’s go-to player in the first half. She scored 12 points while LC State focused most of its attention on shutting down the team’s leading scorer, Stephanie McDonagh and getting her in foul trouble.

UP continued to press its advantage in the second half, outscoring the Warriors in each of the final two quarters. McDonagh had more of an impact, scoring 9 points, but it was Maldonado and the team’s other starting post player, Tristan Murphy that were the stars of the second half.

Murphy went toe-to-toe with Frontier Conference Preseason Player of the Year Brittany Tackett. Tackett played well, and led the Warriors with 19 points, but Murphy went shot for shot with her, scoring 19 points of her own, including XX in the second half, while adding 7 rebounds.

The Lady Argos are now 3-2 against ranked opponents and are 14-3 (5-1) on the year.
