GREAT FALLS – A trio of University of Providence student-athletes won conference player of the week awards on Monday.

Two Argo soccer players were named the Cascade Conference players of the week.

Ole Cloppenburg was named the Red Lion men's soccer defensive player of the week, while Eme McLaughlin was named the Red Lion women's soccer offensive player of the week.

Cloppenburg was a big reason why the Argos held Benedictine University–Mesa to a shutout. He also contributed an assist in Providence's 2-2 draw with Embry-Riddle.

"Ole was solid overall this past weekend," head coach Matt Ball said. "Nothing got past him. He also stepped up on the offensive side of the ball, which helped us."

McLaughlin had an incredible weekend, scoring seven goals in two games. She recorded three against Arizona Christian and had four in Providence's 10-0 win over Park University Gilbert.

Cloppenburg and the men's team will take the field again at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 at Argo Field against Northwest University. McLaughlin and the women's team will travel to Billings this weekend, as they take on Rocky Mountain College at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14.

The Frontier Conference announced Monday that Sacha Legros has been named the league's defender of the week.

Legros, a junior from Belgium, recorded a team-high in digs in both games this weekend, recording 27 and 21 respectively. She averaged 6.86 digs a set per the weekend, and her defense propelled the Argos to wins over Benedictine University and Medicine Hat College at the University of Providence Fall Classic.

"Sacha has been a rock for us on serve receive and defense so far this year," head coach Arunas Duda said. "She plays with such maturity and always puts herself in a great position to make a play on the ball. This award is a great honor for a much deserving athlete."

This is her second player of the week award this season. Both Legros and Kelsey Shaver were named conference players of the week on Aug. 27.

Legros and the Argos have an off week before starting conference play with a home game against Montana Tech on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
