Tech's Sindou Diallo, Western's Brynley Fitzgerald named Frontier players of the week

WHITEFISH -- Montana Tech's Sindou Diallo and Montana Western's Brynley Fitzgerald were named the Frontier Conference men's and women's basketball players of the week, the league announced Monday.

It's the second conference honor of the season for Diallo, a 6-foot-3 guard from Tacoma, Washington, who helped the Orediggers to three victories over Montana Western last week to complete the season sweep of the Bulldogs.

Diallo averaged 19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting 60% from the field for the week. He scored 31 points in Tech's 86-81 win on Jan. 27.

Montana Tech (9-7 overall, 9-5 Frontier Conference) is on the road this weekend when it travels to the University of Providence (7-1, 7-1) for games on Feb. 6 and 7.

Fitzgerald, a 5-11 junior guard from Dillon, helped Montana Western go 2-0 for the week. The Bulldogs swept their weekend series at Montana Tech, winning Saturday 74-52 and Sunday 61-52.

Fitzgerald averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, and was 17-of-32 shooting from the field and 11 of 12 from the free throw line. She has scored 20-plus points in her past three games and leads the conference in scoring at 17.5 points per game.

Western (10-4, 8-4) is slated to play at Providence (4-3, 4-3) on Wednesday before hosting Rocky Mountain College (1-5, 1-5) on Saturday and Sunday.
