Rocky Mountain College dominates Snow Creek Classic

RED LODGE – Facing high winds and wind burn at the Snow Creek Classic at Red Lodge Mountain, four Battlin' Bears earned first place individual finishes on Saturday.

Both Ester Jakobsson and Sydney Weaver finished first individually for Rocky's women's ski racing team in a pair of slaloms.

The Battlin' Bears finished first as a team in the first race with a result of 185.95 and second behind Montana State University in the second race with a result of 227.68.

In the first slalom race, Jakobsson's first run of 28.55 was the fastest of the day for a women's skier. After finishing her second run in 29.08, the third fastest time of the day, Jakobsson took first on a combined time of 57.63. She finished 13th in the second race on a total time of 85.35.

Weaver finished third in the first slalom race on a total time of 60.40, but secured a first place finish in the second race with runs of 35.23 and 35.43. Her combined time of 70.66 in the latter competition was more than a second faster than anyone else in the race.

Jessica Liu didn't finish her first run in the first race, but placed in second in the second race with runs of 35.70 and 36.07.

Emily Aga took eighth in the first race with a time of 67.33 while teammate Larissa Saarel finished in ninth in 67.92. While Saarel did not finish her first run in the second race, Aga took seventh with a time of 77.79.

Carina Bracy took 14th in the first race in 72.66 and 11th in the second race in 85.25.

As for the men's ski racing team, the Battlin' Bears swept the podium in both races with Alexander Sehlberg and Ludvig Bye each earning a first place finish. The Battlin' Bears finished first in both races with team results of 162.48 and 190.06.

Sehlberg finished with runs of 26.52, the fastest of the day, and 26.99 for a combined time of 53.52 and a first place victory in the first race. He did not complete his second run in the second race.

Ludvig Bye took second, behind Sehlberg, in the first race on a total time of 54.35. He also earned the Battlin' Bears another individual first place victory in the second race with runs of 31.08 and 31.15 for a combined time of 62.23.

Filip Johansson took third in the first race on a time of 54.61 and second in the second race with a combined time of 63.46.

Finishing fifth in the first race on a combined time of 55.23, Oscar Dalmalm improved to a third place finish in the second race with a total time of 64.37.

The Battlin' Bears will continue the Snow Creek Classic with a pair of giant slalom races tomorrow at Red Lodge Mountain in Red Lodge, Mont.
