CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Montana State University-Northern men’s wrestling team team has been selected as the “Under Armour Team of the Week” for Feb. 8-14, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.

Competing for the last time prior to the NAIA national championships, the No. 19 Lights upended rival Providence 22-15 on the road.

Winning matches for MSUN on the night included:

133 pounds – Nick Kunz 6-0
149 – Connor Harris 5-1
174 – Chase Short 13-6
184 – Isaac Casey (fall)
197 – Steeler French 6-4
285 – Isaac Bartel - OT riding time (7 seconds)

Kunz, Short and Bartel have already secured their selections to nationals since they're ranked in the top 15 in their respective weight-class. As a result of COVID-19 and restrictions in various CCC locations, the league is using a selection process to identify qualifiers. The 32 conference representatives will be announced Feb. 20.

MSU-Northern will next be in action March 5-6 at the 2021 NAIA national tournament.

Meanwhile, Providence’s Joel Avila was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Wrestler of the Week.

Avila, the No. 20-ranked 125-pound junior from Indio, Calif., led the Argos to a victory over Northwest College with a 15-3 major decision over Sterling Quinn before posting a similar 15-3 major decision over MSU-Northern’s Kaleb Frank.
