KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Montana Western women's basketball team is headed back to the national tournament.

The Bulldogs (16-9 overall, 12-8 Frontier Conference) earned an at-large bid and will play their opening-round game in Lewiston, Idaho, the NAIA announced Thursday. The 48-team opening-round event will take place March 12-13 at eight locations.

Western, the 2019 national champion, is making its 13th trip to the national tournament.

Montana Western, Westmont (Calif.) and Benedictine Mesa (Ariz.) make up the Lewiston B Bracket. The Bulldogs play Benedictine Mesa on March 12. The winner of that game will play Westmont on March 13.

The winners of the three-team opening-round pods will meet up in Sioux City, Iowa, at the NAIA national championship final site event. The 40th annual championship takes place at the Tyson Event Center from March 18-23.
