BUTTE -- Kyle Samson will coach his first game as the Montana Tech head football coach on Feb. 27 at Eastern Oregon. The Orediggers' 2021 spring football schedule was unveiled on the Frontier Conference website this week.

Samson, who played his college football at Montana State-Northern, is taking over as Tech's head coach after Chuck Morrell left the program for a position at Fresno State. Samson will make his home debut against his alma mater on March 6 when they Lights visit Butte. The Orediggers are at home again on March 13 to host Carroll College.

Tech travels to reigning conference champion College of Idaho on March 20 and then hosts Southern Oregon on March 27. The Orediggers close out the seven-game conference schedule at Rocky Mountain College on April 3 and back home against Montana Western on April 10.

Tech won six of its first eight games in 2019, with both losses coming against College of Idaho, including a 16-14 heart-breaker in Caldwell. The Orediggers lost their final two games of the season to finish at 6-4 and miss the NAIA national playoffs. The 2021 NAIA national playoffs are scheduled to being April 17 with the national championship game on May 10, 2021 at Eddie Robinson Stadium in Grambling, La.

The Frontier Conference announced Wednesday that its Council of Presidents had approved the seven-game 2021 spring schedule, but "the dates of the games may be subject to change as recommended by the institutions and local health officials," according to a media release.
