CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Montana State University-Northern men’s wrestling team was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Under Armour team of the week after the 15th-ranked Lights went 4-0 at the Concordia University Duals in Seward, Nebraska, on Saturday.
Using multiple lineups, the Lights downed Morningside (Iowa) 26-18, No. 13 Doane (Nebraska) 23-21, Concordia 41-3 and Oklahoma Wesleyan 47-6.
Isaac Bartel, the top-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds, had a perfect 4-0 weekend. The senior defeated Kasten Grape of Morningside and Bradley Antesberger of Doane with 14-2 and 10-0 major decisions, respectively, and Mason Garcia of Concordia and LaTrent Owens of Oklahoma Wesleyan with falls.
Kaleb Frank, a redshirt sophomore from Thompson Falls, went 3-0 at 125 pounds, scoring a fall over Benjamin Schmitz of Morningside, a 10-3 decision over Luke Davis of Doane and a 4-3 decision over Carter Willis of Concordia. Frank was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference men's wrestler of the week on Monday.
Reigning 125-pound NAIA national champion Nick Kunz went 2-0 at 133 pounds at the Concordia Duals. The former Helena Capital standout won with an 11-2 major decision over Taylor Vasquez of Morningside and a 4-0 decision over Daniel Vargas of Doane. Kunz was wrestling up a weight class, as he is the NAIA's No. 1-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds.
Carl Hansen (2-0 at 184 pounds), Rylan Moldenhauer (2-0 at 285) and Connor Harris (1-0 at 149) also went undefeated for the Lights. Full results are below.
