Iverly Navarro, Tatum Sparks win conference wrestling titles; Providence finishes 3rd

ASHLAND, Ore. -- Iverly Navarro and Tatum Sparks won individual titles at the Cascade Collegiate Conference women's wrestling tournament on Sunday afternoon, leading the Providence Argos to a third-place effort in the team standings. Providence finished with 117.5 points.

Menlo College won the inaugural conference team title, tallying 166.5 points, while Southern Oregon was runner-up with 151.5.

Navarro won the 101-pound championship with a technical fall against Menlo's Tianna Fernandez, while Sparks' 155-pound title came via an injury default courtesy Southern Oregon's Gladdys Palma.

Argo Christine Marquez finished second in the 191-pound division, falling 6-3 to Southern Oregon's Kayvette Osorio in the title match. Providence also saw Maria Elena Enriquez finish third at 143 pounds, while Ivory Ayers ended the same at 170. Lana Hunt and Alina Kinsey placed fourth at 109 and 116 pounds, respectively.

Glory Konecny, a former Billings West High wrestler, recoded a second-place finish at 123 pounds for Southern Oregon.

Providence earned the team sportsmanship award and joins the rest of the nation in prepping for the second annual NAIA National Invitational in Jamestown, N.D., which will be held March 13-14 at Harold Newman Arena. Each school is allowed to take 12 individuals of their choice to the tournament.

The host Jimmies of Jamestown University repeated as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference champions, with Helena native Alyssa Schrull earning a fourth-place finish.
