GREAT FALLS – The University of Providence men's wrestling team announced the signing of Liam Swanson Wednesday morning.

Swanson is currently a senior at Great Falls High School. He had decorated careers as both a wrestler and a football player. In wrestling, he was named all-state and all-conference and placed third at divisionals. He was also named the Outstanding Wrestler at 182 pounds at the Mining City Duals as a junior. He placed third at the Montana State AA championship en route to helping the Bison to a state team championship. During his career, he has lettered three times, was named an Ironman three times and was a three-year state qualifier.

"Liam is an outstanding student-athlete that is just as successful in the classroom as he is in the sport arena," UP head coach Steve Komac said. "He gets better on the mat every time I see him and I think he has a great deal of potential still to come. Liam had many schools interested in him and we are very pleased that he chose to continue his wrestling career here at UP."

Swanson, who Komac envisions competing in the 184- or 197-pound weight class, was named to both the Honor Roll at GFH and the academic all-state team all three years. He plans to study business at Providence.
