Carroll College basketball teams extend win streaks with weekend sweep of MSU-Northern

HELENA -- The Carroll College men's and women's basketball teams extended their winning streaks on Sunday. The Carroll men have now won eight consecutive games after defeating Montana State-Northern 70-64, while the Carroll women pushed their win streak to six games with an 83-46 win over MSUN.

Carroll College men 70, MSU-Northern 64

The Carroll College men's basketball team won its eighth straight game on Sunday at the PE Center, defeating MSU-Northern by a final score of 70-64.

This was an intense game from start to finish as both teams exchanged haymakers back and forth throughout the contest. In the end, the Saints made plays down the stretch and hit their free throws to secure the weekend sweep of the Lights.

For the second straight game, it was Jovan Sljivancanin leading the Saints in scoring. Sljivancanin, a junior forward from Belgrade, Serbia., finished with 22 points.

With this win, the Saints are now 13-5 on the year, including a Frontier Conference record of 10-4. They are currently in second place in the conference, only behind Providence, which Carroll will host next weekend at the PE Center on Saturday and Sunday.

Carroll College women 83, MSU-Northern 46

The Carroll College women's basketball team defeated MSU-Northern on Sunday by a final score of 83-46 to finish off the weekend sweep.

The Saints took a 44-20 lead into the half before totally running away with the game in the second half. Carroll outscored Northern 28-4 in the third quarter, propelling the Saints to a 37-point victory.

The star of the show in this one for Carroll was the junior guard from Nine Mile Falls, Wash., Sienna Swannack. Swannack finished the game with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Jamie Pickens, the sophomore forward from Helena, also had her second straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

With this victory, the Saints now have a record of 17-2 on the season, and they are 11-1 in Frontier Conference play. They will be back at the PE Center next weekend as they host Providence on Saturday and Sunday.
