BURNABY, B.C. - Shantik Bedrosian and Montana State University Billings men’s soccer made a strong statement Saturday afternoon as they battled No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona to a 1-1 overtime tie in non-conference play at Terry Fox Field in Burnaby, B.C. Bedrosian gave the ‘Jackets a first half lead in the 18th minute on an unassisted goal but Jordan Jackman scored at 25:28 to get the Broncos back to even. Garrett Jensen assisted on the goal.

The Yellowjackets put five of 13 total shots on goal and goalkeeper Jessy Martin made 10 saves in regulation and overtime.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game against a very good team today, but we also showed that we had the quality to create problems against one of the best teams in the country,” commented head coach Thomas Chameraud. “Our plan worked really well, and we were very happy for Shantik to score his first goal of the season. It should give him confidence for the following games. We still have a lot of work to do in order to be more efficient offensively and defensively but overall, it was a positive trip for us. Now we need to get back to work on Monday to prepare for our first two home games.”

Noah Runsvold, Christian Thode, Marvin Putu, Cole Hage, and Bedrosian all recorded a shot on goal in the contest and Runsvold had the most attempts with four. Jackmon proved difficult to contain and put four shots on goal for Cal Poly. The Bronco defense also held MSUB to a single shot attempt in two overtime periods.

THE BUZZ: Shantik Bedrosian was named St. Vincent Healthcare player of the game after scoring his second career goal…Last season, the Broncos defeated the Yellowjackets 2-1 in double-overtime. At the time, Cal Poly was ranked No. 4. Two years ago, Cal Poly beat the ‘Jackets 4-0…The last time the ‘Jackets defeated a ranked opponent was September 16, 2017 (W, 2-1 Upper Iowa University)…Saturday’s game was the third overtime affair for the ‘Jackets in five outings including exhibition games…Cal Poly dropped Thursday’s game to fellow Great Northwest Athletic Conference school #13 Simon Fraser University 3-1.
