Miles Community College basketball teams split doubleheader with Williston State

MILES CITY -- The Miles Community College men's and women's basketball teams split a doubleheader with visiting Williston State on Wednesday. The MCC women cruised to a 74-45 win, while the MCC men lost a 91-89 thriller.

Miles Community College women 74, Williston State 45

Rebekah Dallinger had a monster night at the MCC Centra as the MCC Pioneer women bolted out to a 27-10 first-quarter lead and cruised to a 74-45 win over Williston State to move to 16-0 on the season and 15-0 in MonDak Conference play.

Dallinger scored 34 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out six assists and had five steals in a great all-around game. Kelbee Denham came off the bench to score 11 points and have three assists. Jana Conejero chipped in 10 points and three assists.

The Pioneers shot 42% for the game (24 of 57) but hit 12 of 24 from the 3-point line. Williston State was held to a paltry 19 of 62 (30%) from the floor and hit only 2 of 18 (11%) from the 3-point line. The Tetons were led in scoring by Keeley Tini with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jazzmyn Kailahi-Fulu had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

MCC will head to rival Dawson on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Williston State men 91, Miles Community College 89

Caleb Johnson scored a layup with 3.5 seconds left to lift Williston State to a 91-89 win over Miles CC on Wednesday night in Miles City.

Johnson scored 19 points and had nine rebounds as Williston built a 14-point lead with 10:52 remaining but watched Miles frantically rally to take a 87-86 lead late in the contest. Adreone Sprinkles then hit his only 3-pointer of the season at the shot clock buzzer with :30 to play to take a 89-87 lead. Pioneer Favour Chukwukelu tied the game at 89 with two free throws with 15 seconds remaining before Johnson's game-winning heroics.

Williston State hit on 18 of 35 from the floor, including 7 of 14 from 3-point range, in the second half after being tied 44-44 at halftime. The Tetons out-rebounded MCC 43-36 and had 16 offensive rebounds. Five Tetons scored in double figures as Alonzo Linton scored 18 points and Trae Hugs came off the bench to score 17. Mabeny Naam had 12 points and 12 rebounds while Matt Dufner hit 10 points off the bench as well. Williston State upped its record to 7-7 in MonDak play.

Miles was led in scoring by Dylan Hushaw with 24 points to go along with five rebounds. Chukwukelu had 23 points, six rebounds and five assists. Remy Lemovou had 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Jakim Ricketts also had 18 points and four assists. The Pioneers fell to 10-7 on the season and 9-7 in league play. MCC will travel to rival Dawson on Sunday for a 4 p.m. game.
