MILES CITY -- Miles City volleyball standout Sydney Johnstone has signed a national letter of intent to play for coach Chase Soennichsen and the MCC Pioneers next season.

Johnstone, a 5-foot-11 utility player, had an outstanding senior season for the Custer County Cowgirls. Johnstone had 25 aces and a 95-percent serving percentage, as well as a 2.3 serve-receive rating. She accounted for 110 kills, 54 blocks and 238 digs for the season.

The Cowgirls came within one match of qualifying for the Class A state tournament, as Johnstone was named an honorable-mention all-state selection.

Johnstone is also involved in National Honors Society and basketball at CCDHS. She is the daughter of Jeff and Brenda Johnstone, and is planning for an Associate of Science Allied Health degree at MCC.

"I really appreciate the support I've received in this community and look forward to playing for Miles City again," Johnstone said. "I have always wanted to play volleyball for Coach Soennichsen and Coach (Robin) Cusimano. It's a great opportunity to continue the game I love and increase my volleyball IQ."
