Dawson Community College sweeps Lake Region

A walk-off safety squeeze play propelled Dawson Community College Softball to a decisive, dramatic victory over Lake Region State College, 6-5.

The game was tied at five with Dawson batting in the bottom of the seventh when Alex Chapman delivered a pitch to Maycen O'Neal who bunted in the winning run. Dawson earned the victory despite allowing Lake Region State College to score three runs in the fourth inning.

Lake Region State College's big inning was driven by singles by Jacey Ledochowski and Ainsley Olson. The Lady Buccaneers got things moving in the first inning, when Riley Arnold singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Shelby Martin was credited with the victory for Dawson. The right hander surrendered five runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out nine.

Chapman took the loss for Lake Region. The hurler went six and a third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out two.

Riley Arnold led Dawson with three hits in four at bats. Dawson tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Fallyn Marshall led the way with two. Trya Robertson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Royals.

Coach Jim LeProwse stated that, “Lake Region’s pitcher did a great job of keeping our hitters off balance all game. She does not throw hard, but does a great job of hitting her spots and changing speed. Riley Arnold had another great game at the plate for us. This was a good win against a very good Lake Region State College team.”

Four RBI Day for Riley Arnold Seals the Deal in Dawson’s Victory over the Lady Royals

Riley Arnold wasted no opportunities at the plate on Saturday, driving in four on three hits to lead Dawson past Lake Region 11-2 in the second game doubleheader. Riley Arnold drove in runs on a home run in the first and a single in the third. Dawson fired up the offense in the first inning, when Arnold homered on a 2-2 count, scoring three runs. The Lady Bucs tallied four runs in the third inning. Fallyn Marshall, Ashlynne Copinga, and Arnold each had RBIs in the big inning. Deven Creech was the winning pitcher for the Lady Buccaneers. The pitcher surrendered two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out two and walking one.

Ainsley Olson took the loss for Lake Region. Olson surrendered 11 runs on 13 hits over four innings, striking out three and walking one.

The Lady Buccaneers tallied one home run on the day. Arnold put one out in the first inning. Dawson racked up 13 hits on the day. Arnold, O'Neal, and Copinga all managed multiple hits for the red and black. Riley Arnold went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Dawson in hits. Dawson was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Shelby Martin made the most plays with six.

Coach LeProwse said, “Riley Arnold continued her dominance at the plate. Deven Creech pitched a great game and limited the opportunities for Lake Region State. I was real pleased with the way we hit the ball in this game.”

Lady Buccaneers Takes the Win over Lake Region

DCC took home a 4-1 victory over Lake Region on game 1 on Sunday. Dawson got things moving in the first inning, when Maycen O'Neal doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. Alexa Kappel was on the rubber for the Lady Buccaneers. Kappel lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out eight.

Ainsley Olson toed the rubber for Lake Region. The bulldog allowed seven hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out five. The Lady Buccaneers totaled eight hits in the game. Alissa West and Maycen O'Neal all collected multiple hits for Dawson. Alissa West led the Lady Bucs with three hits in three at bats.

Trya Robertson went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Lake Region in hits.

Coach LeProwse commented, “Alexa pitched a great game in this one. We did the little things right to get the win and I am proud of my team.”

Dawson Grabs Lead in Eighth Inning to Defeat Lady Royals

The red and black attack ran off with the lead late in the game in a 10-4 victory over Lake Region State College on Sunday. The game was tied at four with Dawson batting in the top of the eighth when Dawson scored on a stolen base during Riley Arnold's at bat. Then Arnold singled. Dawson earned the victory despite allowing Lake Region to score three runs in the seventh inning.
The Lady Royals scored its runs on a home run by Jacey Ledochowski.

The Lady Buccaneers got things moving in the first inning. Shelby Martin drove in one when Martin singled. Lake Region evened things up at four in the bottom of the seventh inning when Ledochowski homered on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs. Tia Washington was the winning pitcher for Dawson. Tia Washington went four innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out one and walking one. Deven Creech threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Alex Chapman took the loss for Lake Region State College. The bulldog allowed 12 hits and ten runs over eight innings, striking out two. Dawson socked one home run on the day. Emily Curtis went for the long ball in the eighth inning.
Lady Buccaneers saw the ball well today, racking up 12 hits in the game.
Marshall, McAuliffe, Martin, Arnold, and Madison Davis each racked up multiple hits for Dawson Community College Softball. Davis, Arnold, Martin, McAuliffe, and Marshall each collected two hits to lead Dawson.

Lake Region collected nine hits on the day. Sydney Beneda and Trya Robertson each had multiple hits for the Lady Royals.

Coach LeProwse said, “We are pretty lucky to come away with the win in this game. We had an error on defense with two outs in the bottom of the 7th and made another mental mistake and it could have definitely cost us the game. Like I said before, we are very fortunate to come out with 4 wins in this series with Lake Region State.”
