The home teams left little drama in the quarterfinal round of the Class B football state playoffs on Saturday. Glasgow, Manhattan, Fairfield and Florence each rolled to double-digit wins to secure their places in next week's semifinal round.
Glasgow 46, Columbus 0
GLASGOW -- Jesse Lee scored two touchdowns and the Glasgow defense shut out visiting Columbus en route to a 46-0 win in the quarterfinal round of the Class B state football playoffs.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Scotties erupted in the second. Lee scored both of his touchdowns, and then Loden Idler added two TDs for the Scotties, including one on defense. It was 30-0 at halftime, and Glasgow added touchdown runs from Dalton Sand and Tatum Hansen in the third quarter to seal the win.
Glasgow, the No. 3 seed from the North, will head to the semifinals for the first time since 2013. The Scotties will travel to undefeated Manhattan next week.
Manhattan 50, Malta 0
MANHATTAN -- Caden Holgate had another big game, throwing four touchdown passes and running for two more, as Manhattan rolled to a 50-0 win over Malta in the quarterfinal round of the Class B football state playoffs on Saturday.
The Tigers kept their undefeated record intact with another dominant all-around performance. Saturday's shutout of the Mustangs was the Tigers' fifth of the season.
Manhattan, the No. 1 seed from the South, will host Glasgow in next week's semifinals.
Fairfield 40, Whitehall 13
FAIRFIELD -- Miguel had four touchdowns to help Fairfield get back to the Class B football state semifinals. The Eagles defeated Whitehall 40-13 in a quarterfinal game on Saturday.
Fairfield, the perennial power that's again the No. 1 seed from the North, built a 26-13 halftime lead, and that score held through three quarters. Perez finished the game off with two fourth-quarter touchdowns to secure the win.
Fairfield will host Florence in next week's semifinal round.
Florence 28, Townsend 7
FLORENCE -- Levi Posey caught two touchdown passes, including on a double-reverse pass trick play, as Florence cruised into the Class B football state semifinal round with a 28-7 win over Townsend on Saturday.
The Falcons, the No. 1 seed out of the West, started slowly in last week's first-round win over Conrad. That wasn't a problem on Saturday, as Tristan Pyette put the Falcons on the board in the first quarter. After Townsend's Jesus Garcia tied things up at 7-7, Pat Duchien gave the lead back to Townsend with his own touchdown run.
The Falcons poured it on in the second half, with Posey catching his two touchdown passes, and the Florence defense shutting down the Townsend offense.
Florence will travel to Fairfield for a semifinal game next week.
