FLORENCE — Second-ranked Eureka jumped out to a 14-0 lead at Western B football rival Florence and never trailed on its way to a 34-14 win on Friday.

The Lions scored twice in the first quarter — once on a 10-yard pass from Hank Dunn to Austin Sartori and once on an 11-yard run by Chet McCully — to take a 14-0 lead they would carry into the halftime break.

Both teams erupted for fireworks in the third quarter, though.

Florence got on the scoreboard right out of the gates with a 61-yard touchdown pass from Pat Duchien to Jonny Chamberlin. Duchien added a second TD toss — a 74-yarder to Levi Posey — later in the third, but Eureka had an answer for every Florence score.

Jake Kindel scored on a 1-yard run and McCully added his second touchdown of the game on a 12-yard scamper later in the third to put the Lions up 28-14 going to the fourth. Kindel would add an insurance touchdown in the final frame to seal the 34-14 win and improve to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Western B.

Dunn carried the ball 12 times for 114 yards while also completing 15 of 28 passes for 171 yards for the Lions. McCully (13 carries, 91 yards) and Kindel (17 carries, 80 yards) combined for 171 yards on 30 carries.

Eureka returns home next weekend for another Western B showdown against Missoula Loyola (4-2 overall, 2-0 conference). Florence (4-2, 3-1), meanwhile, will play a non-conference game against Red Lodge.
