HAMILTON -- Tyson Rostad caught two first half touchdowns and Hamilton rallied past Frenchtown 34-25 in a key Western A showdown on Friday night.
Rostad caught his first touchdown from brother Carson, a 15-yard reception to give the No. 5 Hamilton Broncs a quick 7-0 lead. The younger Rostad then added another score on a trick play, a wide receiver pass that saw Carson Rostad throw to Jaiden Klemundt who in turn found Tyson Rostad for the score and 14-0 lead after the opening quarter.
But Carson Rostad threw two interceptions in the first half, the latter leading to a Tel Arthur touchdown that would slice the lead to 14-6 at intermission.
Jace Klucewich, Frenchtown's speedy junior, scored on a 32-yard touchdown run midway through the third to get Frenchtown to within 14-13, but Hamilton fumbled on its ensuing drive and Cade Baker's 2-yard touchdown pushed Frenchtown ahead 19-14 for its first lead of the game.
That's when Montana Grizzly commit Carson Rostad took over.
After converting a pair of fourth downs on the next drive, Rostad scored on a short run to re-give his Broncs the lead, 20-19, at the end of the third. Rostad added another rushing touchdown early in the fourth to extend the lead to 27-19, then found Brock Jones for a short passing touchdown minutes later to put Hamilton ahead 34-19. Both fourth quarter touchdowns came after Frenchtown turnovers.
Frenchtown added a late touchdown, but the damage was already done. The Broncs fell to 4-1, while Hamilton improved to the same with the win.
Frenchtown will look to get back on the winning track at Polson next Friday, while Hamilton hosts Columbia Falls.
