SACRAMENTO – The Montana Lady Griz traveled to Sacramento on Thursday to take on the Sacramento State Hornets in Big Sky Conference basketball action. The Lady Griz were riding a two-game conference winning streak and looked to move to 3-0 on the young season.
In the first quarter, the Lady Griz came out sloppy, turning the ball over multiple times and struggling to score. Sac State took advantage early and used its 3-point shooting to take a 15-point lead.
In the second half, the Lady Griz pulled together and made it a game. In the fourth quarter, the Griz led by three with a chance to make it four with a free throw from Mckenzie Johnston. Johnston missed the free throw and Sac State’s Sarah Abney hit a ridiculous 3-pointer to send it to overtime.
In overtime, the game remained just as close. With another chance to win the game Johnston drove to the right and looked for senior Jace Henderson down low, but it was stolen by the Hornets. Sac State called a timeout with 1.1 seconds and got a good look on the inbounds play, but to no avail as it rimmed out.
In double overtime it was close, but the Lady Griz edged out the Hornets and took the win, 88-86, to move to 3-0 in conference play.
