OGDEN, Utah – Montana State thrower Kyle Douglass’s torrid senior campaign has rolled into the outdoor track season. After another standout performance, Douglass has been chosen as the Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Douglass continued his reign atop the Big Sky Conference during MSU’s latest trip to California. The Missoula native completed a showing that moved him up to the first spot among Big Sky competitors at the Beach Invitational on Saturday, April 21.

Douglass earned an outdoor lifetime best in the shot put with a toss of 60-01.25 (18.32m). He took fifth overall in the event and his shot put moved him from fourth to second all-time in program history. His shot put only trails Dennis Black’s school-record mark set in 1994 of 60-10.75.

A silver medalist at the Big Sky Indoor Championships in February, Douglass is now the leader in the Big Sky in two events, including his conference-best discus throw he tossed the weekend prior at the Triton Invitational. In the shot put, Douglass is ranked 15th in the West Region and 34th among all Division I competitors, while in the discus he is 26th in the region and 48th in the nation.

Douglass was previously named the Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week twice during the indoor season. The award is the fifth of his Bobcat career.

The Montana State track and field teams travel to Missoula for the Cat-Griz Dual with a majority of events taking place at Dornblaser Field on Saturday, April 28.
