Montana State Bobcats begin new home streak

BUTTE — The Montana State Bobcats held the second-longest home winning streak in the nation at 31 games before it was snapped last Thursday in a loss to Portland State.

Most teams don’t reflect on such streaks, but this was important to the Bobcats.

“It was hard (on Friday) to get to practice and just get re-energized,” said head coach Tricia Binford. “(The streak) was something that we took a lot of pride in, for our community and our fans.”

Getting past the loss didn’t look difficult when the team hit the court again on Saturday, as the Cats blew out visiting Sacramento State 85-50 at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. MSU was paced by senior Delany Junkermier’s 23 points, who was clearly ready to get her ladies back on track after losing three straight Big Sky Conference games. But for Junkermier, it was the work of her teammates that had her excited after the game.

“I think it took a lot of maturity for these young girls,” she said of her team’s ability to rebound. “Obviously, (Thursday) was a tough one for us, but we’re 1-0, we’re starting a new streak, and that’s the way we have to be.”

Montana State hopes to push the streak to two games on Jan. 20 when it hosts rival Montana.
