Montana Grizzlies’ Jamar Akoh named player of the week

OGDEN, Utah – After averaging a near double-double with 28 points and 9.5 rebounds per game last week, Montana junior forward Jamar Akoh has been named the Big Sky Conference Ready Nutrition Player of the Week.

Akoh put together a career week to lead the Grizzlies to a 4-0 start in Big Sky play with home wins over North Dakota and Northern Colorado. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., product began the week with his fourth double-double performance of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds in a 109-79 rout of North Dakota, the most points for the Grizzlies over a Division I opponent since 1992.

On Saturday, Akoh tallied a career-best 34 points along with eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks in an 89-80 victory over Northern Colorado. Akoh’s 34 points were the most by a Grizzly in eight seasons.

Akoh finished with a 65.5 shooting clip (19-of-29) from the field on the week, while going 78.3 percent (18-of-23) from the charity stripe. He also added 3.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game to his stat line.
