SAN ANTONIO – Consistency is paying off with big dividends for several of the contestants in Bracket 3 of the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo.

This was the second round of the bracket. Four of the seven events saw repeat winners making the victory lap around the AT&T Center. Three of those event winners were champions here in 2014.

Helena steer wrestlers Ty Erickson showed the form that’s put him into contention for world titles the past two seasons. Erickson won the round in a time of 3.7, good for almost $2,400.

Wade Sundell, who is known on the rodeo circuit for his flamboyant riding style and love of the game won $18,090 here in 2014. He had the high score in round one and again on Wednesday night. His round two victory came aboard Calgary Stampede’s Yesterday’s Delivery. The 85-point score earned the Coleman, Oklahoma, resident $2,378 bringing his total here to $4,756.

Reigning world champions Erich Rogers and Cory Petska stopped the clock in 4.8 seconds to take their second victory lap. That run earned the Arizona team $2,378 on Wednesday. Combined with their earnings on Tuesday, they have $4,756 each. With Rogers heading and Petska heeling, they earned the title here in 2014 and won $21,129.

Sage Kimzey won the title here in the bull riding, the first time that he entered the rodeo and went on to win his first of four world championships. Kimzey, from Strong City, Oklahoma got his season off to a good start then with $18,029 in earnings then and is hoping for a repeat here this year. He is well on his way to another big victory here this year.

Kimzey is just returning to action after sustaining a broken pelvis less than two months ago. He  was one of two men to successfully make it to the whistle on Mondady, then was the only successful rider on Tuesday. He scored 88.5 points on D & H Cattle Company’s Bluestone to win $5,945 in the second round. He has total earnings of $9,215 here so far.

In the Barrel racing Texas’s own Carly Richardson is leader of the pack. Richardson, who makes her home at Pampa stopped the clock in 14.06 seconds to win the second round. That was just a tick faster than her previous time of 14.08 seconds. Richardson has also won $4,756 here so far.

Contestants advance to the Semifinals based on how much money they win and based on these contestants performances in the first two rounds of their brackets, they are all making plans to return to the Alamo City to compete in the $1.7 million rodeo next week. The third round of Bracket 3 will conclude on Thursday night with competition beginning at 7 p.m.
