HELENA – The Helena Capital wrestlers are getting ready for the final stretch of their season, making a trip to divisionals this weekend in Kalispell.
Even though the team has been plagued with injuries this season and — compared to last year’s squad — is a little inexperienced, the Bruins are confident in their ability this weekend and moving forward into the state tournament in Billings Feb. 9.
“Well, we’re a really young team. Over half our starters are freshmen or sophomores,” said Capital wrestling head coach Jeff Mahana. “So with us beingg so young we’ve got to keep things interesting for them, a lot of live wrestling, a lot of situational stuff to keep it fresh.”
“We feel pretty strong. We’ve been struggling with injuries all year and now we have our full lineup, or basically as full as our lineup can get,” added senior Travis Schulte. “And it’s everything for state, so we’re all going to go in there, give it our all, I guess.”
“Practice this week, we are just kind of drilling things that we could improve on and things that the coaches see that we could use in the match that we as wrestlers in the match miss,” junior team captain Seth Jensen said. “So we’ve been just hitting those hard, so that we can be focused in and when those chances come we can take them.”
Both Capital and Helena High will be at divisionals this weekend.
