BUTTE — It was a hard-fought game from start to finish, but the Montana Tech women emerged victorious in a 79-73 decision against Alberta’s Lethbridge University on Friday.
The Orediggers found themselves down five points at halftime, after struggling to put the ball in the basket. Tech shot 15.4 percent from three-point range and just 34.4 percent from the field in the opening half. Despite shooting just three free throws in the second half, the Diggers dropped 52 points on an efficient 21-of-41 from the field and 8-of-16 from beyond the arc.
Tech was led by Sammi McGree, who scored 15 points in just 17 minutes of action. Four other Diggers scored in double-digits and Kaylynn Coverdell stuffed the stat sheet with six points, five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Montana Tech assisted 22 of its 32 field goals on the night.
With the win, Tech improves to 10-4 on the season and will have six days off before beginning Frontier Conference play on January 4 against Montana State-Northern.
