HELENA – Ryan Imhoff had 30 points, and Match Burnham added 27 to lead the NAIA’s fourth-ranked Carroll College team topped Canada U-Sports second-ranked Calgary 91-82 in a physical battle at the PE Center Thursday night.

The Saints opened up a big lead in the first half behind hot shooting from Burnham.

Carroll led 14-10 before going on a 21-6 run. Burnham hit his first four three-pointers and went 8-10 from the field in the first half to help the Saints take the 35-16 lead before the Dinos began chipping away.

Calgary battled all the way back to cut the lead to 42-37 with 35 seconds remaining before a putback tip from Alejandro Santos Piqueras gave the Saints a 44-37 lead at the break.

Carroll started the second half with a bucket and free throw from Imhoff to extend the lead to 47-37, but the Dinos went to work and cut the lead to 50-48 with 17:14 to play. That is as close as Calgary would come.

The Saints answered with a 16-4 run to build a 66-52 lead. Carroll kept Calgary at arm’s length and earned the 91-82 win.

Carroll is now 13-0 on the season and continues the best start in school history.

Imhoff made hay on the free throw line where he was 11-12. Burnham was 5-7 from the three-point line and 10-14 overall. Matt Wyman was also productive, hitting 4-6 from the field and 9-11 from the free throw line

The Saints were 29-50 (58 percent) from the field and 7-11 (63.6 percent) from the three-point line. The Saints carried a 27-36 edge on the boards, led by Imhoff with six. Imhoff also had a game-high four assists and three blocks.

Calgary was 32-56 (57.1 percent) from the field and 9-18 (50 percent) from the three-point line.

The Saints and Dinos do battle again tomorrow at the PE Center. The Carroll women tip off against Calgary at 5:30 p.m. with the men following immediately afterward.
