BILLINGS – The Rocky Mountain College women’s basketball team returns from the holiday break this weekend as they play host to the Hampton Inn/Wells Fargo Green & Gold Classic. Rocky will face Dickinson State on Friday and then faces Bethesda on Saturday. Both of the Rocky games will tip at 5:30 p.m.

Montana Western will play at 1:30 p.m. both days, facing Bethesda on Friday and Dickinson State on Saturday.

Rocky enters the home weekend at 9-1 on the season after sweeping three games in Arizona before the break. The Battlin’ Bears haven’t played a home game since falling to MSU Billings in an exhibition game on November 6. They defeated Salish Kootenai 91-34 on October 28 in the only countable home game of the season.

The 9-1 start for the Battlin’ Bears is the team’s best record through 10 games over the past 15 years. The previous best start was 8-2 set during the 2011-12 and 2015-16 seasons.

The Battlin’ Bears lead the NAIA in holding opponents to 44.1 points per game and in limiting the opposition to 19.0 percent from 3-point territory. They are second nationally in field goal defense at 30.5 percent and with a 29.6 scoring margin.

Rocky averages 73.7 points per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the floor. They are fifth in the NAIA with a 1.26 assist-to-turnover ratio with an average of 16.5 assists per game. The Battlin’ Bears grab 43.9 rebounds per game and shoot 34.8 percent from beyond the arc. They lead the Frontier by making 8.6 threes per game.

Brooke Jones leads the team and ranks third in the Frontier by scoring 14.3 points per game. She earned Frontier Conference player of the Week honors on December 18 after leading Rocky to three wins by averaging 17 points and 7.7 rebounds in Arizona. Jones leads the NAIA by shooting 62.8 percent from the floor and is 28th by collecting 5.5 defensive rebounds per contest.

Mikayla Jones averages 11.8 points per game and is 46th in the NAIA by making 2.1 3-pointers per game. She has scored in double figures six times with a pair of 20-point outings. Mikayla Jones has 24 steals and is 41st in the NAIA at 2.4 steals per game.

Hailee Farstveet leads the team with 45 assists – 31st in the NAIA – and her 4.5 assists per game is 18th in the NAIA. She has a 2.143 assist-to-turnover ratio to place 27th nationally while scoring 7.3 points per game.

Next week the Battlin’ Bears return to Frontier Conference play for the remainder of the campaign with a pair of home games. They welcome No. 6 Lewis-Clark State to the Fortin Center on January 4 and then host Montana Western on January 6. Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m.
