SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named Jill Barta its women’s basketball player of the week for December 25, 2017. The league announced the award on Monday.

Barta, the standout junior forward, scored 21 points to go with 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double in 10 games this season to earn WCC player of the week honors. She was 8-of-18 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line as Gonzaga defeated Western Illinois, 80-65, days after the Leathernecks defeated No. 18 Stanford on the road. Barta added four steals, three assists, and a block in the Bulldogs’ lone game this week.

The WCC weekly honor is the second of the season for Barta, the 2017 West Coast Conference Championship Most Outstanding Player. She’s the only WCC player to earn the award twice this season after earning the award twice last season. GU has won three of the seven awards handed out this season, as Zykera Rice took the other.
