COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Tucker Nadeau won the 182-pound championship and helped Kalispell Flathead to a runner-up finish at the 2017 Tri-State Wrestling Invitational on Saturday. The Braves were the highest Montana finisher in the team standings.

Nadeau, last year’s 170-pound third-place finisher at the State AA championships, earned an 8-3 decision over Mason Sabin in the Tri-State title match. Nadeau remains unbeaten on the season. Teammates Alex Paul and Michael Lee added to the team totals by placing third and fifth, respectively, in the 285-pound bracket. Paul won on a 3-1 decision, while Lee, last year’s State AA heavyweight third-place finisher, won in a 42-second fall.

Brendan Barnes added a third-place finish for Jeff Thompson’s Flathead squad, pinning Havre’s Mick Chagnon in 2:36 in the 98-pound consolation match. Tanner Russell earned a 12-4 major decision in the fifth-place match of the 145-pound bracket. Payton Hume also placed fifth, winning in the 170-pound bracket.

Two-time state champion Riley Gurr of Frenchtown also captured a Tri-State title, pinning Tanner Craig of Vancouver, Wash. in 50 seconds in the 132-pound title mach. Gurr won each of his matches by pinfall, in a total of 4:56. Polson’s Bridger Wenzel placed fourth, and Missoula Sentinel’s Reece Eckley was seventh in Gurr’s 132-pound bracket.

Havre High entered Saturday’s action in fourth place in the team standings. Scott Filius and the Blue Ponies finished fourth in the prestigious invitational. Martin Wilkie, a returning State A champion, finished runner-up at 138 pounds after falling 10-6 in the title match. Ryan Stewart placed fifth in the 120-pound bracket, defeating Idaho’s Isaiah Evans 3-0.

Tyler Schaub was fifth at 195 pounds while Mason Dionne added a seventh-place showing for Filius and the Blue Ponies, capturing a fall in 3:54 at 160 pounds.

Frenchtown’s Jake Bibler held off Polson’s Mateo Quinones in the consolation match of the 113-pound bracket. Bibler won the match 6-0. Havre’s Cameron Pleninger finished sixth in the bracket, while Flathead’s Bryce Shaffer was eighth.

Libby’s Buddy Doolin placed seventh at 106 pounds with a 7-1 decision over Idaho’s Chandler Axtell. Polson added a fifth-place finish from Parker Adler at 152 pounds, and a seventh-place finish from Cameron Brown at 138 pounds.
