SHEPHERD – The Columbus Lady Cougars started fast and never looked back as they raced past Shepherd 41-30 on Saturday evening.

The Cougars turned defense into offense on multiple occasions as they held the Fillies to only 12 points in the first half and led by 15 going into the break.

Shepherd never allowed it to get out of control in the second half, but never could pull within single digits as they dropped their conference opener and fell to 0-5 on the season.

The win represented the Cougar’s first victory on the young season.

The boys went right after and played a back and forth affair throughout the 32 minutes but it was Mustangs that pulled away late for the 47-43 victory.

Shepherd jumped out to an 8 point advantage early, but Columbus answered right back and tied it up thanks to some long range shooting.

The Mustangs pulled in front by 4 at the half and that’s the margin they won by on Saturday night. The Mustangs are now 1-4 on the season, while Columbus is still in search of their first win.
