BUTTE — Two of the top talents from the Whitehall Trojans football team have signed on to play football for the Montana Tech Orediggers.
Wide receiver Wyatt Alexander and linebacker Braden Smith joined a wave of future Tech commits on Monday as members of 2018’s recruiting class.
Alexander is a two-time all-state and all-conference selection at both wide receiver and defensive back. At Whitehall, he caught 144 passes for 2,767 yards and 35 touchdowns, ranking in the top 10 in Montana’s history in those statistical categories, according to the Montana High School Association record book. This fall, he broke the state record for touchdown receptions in a single season with 19, breaking the old record of 17 set by Bill Arvish of Hamilton in 1987. His career touchdowns and yardage rank second all-time in state history. Alexander will play receiver for the Orediggers.
Braden Smith was a ‘jack-of-all-trades’ for the Trojans, garnering all-state honors at tight end, linebacker and punter. Smith caught 60 passes for 810 yards and 10 touchdowns, as well as ran for 749 yards with eight scores. He finished his career defensively with 179 tackles, 15 sacks and an interception. He will play either strong safety or linebacker at Montana Tech.
