BILLINGS – It was a career-week for Sven Jeuschede as the junior forward amassed 68 points in three games and earned his first GNAC Player of the Week honor. He scored 20-or-more points in each of the Yellowjackets’ three games after having a career-high of 17 heading into the week.
“Sven is what makes coaching college athletics special,” head coach Jamie Stevens said. “To see his transformation as a player from two years-ago into the player he is now is remarkable. Defensively, he has always been college ready. It’s exciting to see his offensive game really take shape. He had a great week against some high-quality opponents. I hope he can build on this as we get started with the bulk of our very difficult schedule.”
Against Montana Tech on Wednesday, Jeuschede earned the first 20 point game of his MSUB career on 7 of 13 shooting while going 4-for-10 from beyond the arc. He made both of his free throw against the Orediggers and contributed two rebounds, one assist and one steal in the ‘Jackets’ 89-66 win. Jeuschede scored 16 points in the second half and made 4 of 8 three point attempts in the final 20 minutes.
Tipping-off EMC Throwback Weekend, Jeuschede scored another 20 points as the Yellowjackets donned the black and yellow Eastern jerseys in an 85-74 win over Providence. For the second consecutive game, the junior hit 7 of 13 shots with the Roesrath, Germany native sinking 5 of 10 three point attempts and making one free throw. He finished the game with a team-leading three steals and added three rebounds and an assist to his ledger.
Jeuschede nearly willed the Yellowjackets to victory in Saturday’s 95-87 loss to Rocky Mountain College to conclude the busy week. Scoring 23 points in the final 20 minutes of action, the junior forward finished the night with 28 points and shot 11-for-18 from the field while making a career high six 3-pointers. He totaled five rebounds and three assists in the game while playing 29 minutes.
Coming into the week Jeuschede averaged 7.2 points per game and had two 10-plus point outings. While scoring 22.6 points per game over the weekend, he lifted his scoring average to 11.9 points per game and has now scored 10-or-more points in four consecutive games. His top three-game total heading into the week was 39 points during a stretch from Dec 10-31 last season in which he scored 15 points against Rocky, 17 against Simon Fraser and seven against Western Washington.
Jeuschede and the Yellowjackets will host GNAC rival Central Washington on Thursday at 7 p.m. in their first conference home game. MSUB split the season series with the Wildcats last season with each team winning on the road.
