BILLINGS – The Billings West girls put Friday night’s disappointing loss behind them quickly.
After coming up short against State AA favorite Missoula Sentinel, the Bears scored 30 points in the opening quarter against Missoula Big Sky Saturday afternoon on their way to a 75-36 win at the Golden Dome.
Shayla Montague hits multiple threes in the opening quarter, and West forced a handful of turnovers that led to easy transition buckets.
The win moves the Bears to 1-1 on the young season, while Big Sky falls to 0-3.
Missoula Sentinel 42, Billings Senior 32
Missoula Sentinel used a 10-0 first quarter run to jump ahead of Billings Senior early Saturday, and the Spartans never looked back on their way to a 42-32 win to cap a 2-0 road weekend in Billings.
Sentinel outlasted West 57-45 Friday, though it was just a four-point game with four minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Senior jumped out to a 4-0 lead Saturday after two Mariah Linse lay-ups in the first 30 seconds, but Sentinel’s height helped them win the rebounding and second-chance point battles.
Senior falls to 2-1 with the loss.
Billings Skyview 41, Missoula Hellgate 38
Billings Skyview joined Sentinel as the only two girls teams to finish the weekend 2-0, with a 41-38 win over Missoula Hellgate Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons hit five threes in the first quarter – seven total in the first half – to jump out to a 28-14 halftime lead. Hellgate charged after the break, but never tied it or took the lead.
