BILLINGS – The Rocky Mountain College women’s basketball team fell to Montana State University Billings 62-57 on Friday night in an exhibition game for the Battlin’ Bears.

The game was tightly contested all night with neither team reaching an advantage of more than seven points. Rocky held a 52-50 lead with 3:25 remaining before MSU Billings (7-0) used an 8-1 run to take control down the stretch.

The Battlin’ Bears used 34 points in the paint to help them shoot 51.3 percent for the game. They were at a blistering 61.1 percent in the first half, yet still trailed 31-30 at intermission.

Mikayla Jones scored 15 points to lead Rocky. She made 4 of 9 from the field and added four rebounds, two assists and three steals.

MSU Billings made just 33.3 percent overall and went 8 of 27 from beyond the arc. Two of those threes came from Alisha Breen on consecutive possessions during the fourth quarter run. The Yellowjackets had a 33-23 edge in rebounds and they scored 14 points from 16 offensive rebounds.

Markaele Francis added 12 points for the Battlin’ Bears. Brooke Jones scored 10 points with seven rebounds and Alecia Chamberlin also scored 10.

Breen led the ‘Jackets with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Rocky will now head for Arizona to play three games next week. They action begins on Thursday against Ottawa (Ariz.) at 8 p.m. MT from Surprise, Ariz.
