BILLINGS – Billings West gave the State AA favorites all they could handle Friday night, but Missoula Sentinel showed their championship pedigree in a 57-45 win on the road at the Golden Dome.

West was within one, 29-28, at halftime and were as close as four with under four minutes to play in the game. But senior Kylie Frohlich and sophomore Lexi Deden controlled the paint while Jordyn and Shelby Schweyen made enough free throws late to put the scrappy Bears away.

Sentinel moves to 2-0 on the season while West falls to 0-1. The Bears host Missoula Big Sky Saturday while Sentinel travels to Billings Senior. Both games are schedule for 1:45 pm.

Billings Skyview 55, Missoula Big Sky 44

A 10-0 third quarter run propelled Billings Skyview past Missoula Big Sky Friday night, 55-44 in the Falcons’ season opener.

Big Sky led at the half, and a jumper by Julia Riekena pushed the Eagles’ lead to four early in the third quarter, but sophomore Jordan Roe gave Skyview the lead midway through the third, which the Falcons would never give up.

Skyview (1-0) hosts Missoula Hellgate Saturday at 1:45 pm.
