CHESTER – Basketball coaches across the state are packing for Hawaii. None are traveling to the island state, not this weekend anyway, but many will be donning their Hawaiian shirts for a good cause.

Days after Belt girls basketball coach Jeff Graham and Shelby athletic director Mike White collaborated to have coaches at the upcoming Coyotes Classic wear Hawaiian shirts in honor of the late Griff Bye, coaches attending the upcoming Chester-Joplin-Inverness Preseason Tournament will do the same.

The tournament, which will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, hosts Class C teams from around the Hi-Line. Chinook, Big Sandy, Dutton-Brady, North Star, Power and Sunburst join CJI in the tournament.

North Star coach and athletic director Brian Campbell says players from North Star and Power will join coaches in wearing the Hawaiian shirts during Thursday and Friday’s performances.
