BILLINGS – Bound for their second bowl game in two years, the Wyoming’s Cowboys are game planning for Central Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
Wyoming enters with a 7-5 mark. The Chippewas are 8-4.
Last year Wyoming nearly rallied to beat BYU before falling 24-21 on a rainy night in the Pionsettia Bowl.
This represents just the third time Wyoming has reached back-to-back bowl games, a fact not lost on Cowboys Athletic Director Tom Burman.
“I think this is a step in building something special,” he said. “You want to routinely compete for conference championships. We’ve done that two years in a row and we’re going to win one. It’s just a matter of time and I don’t think there’s any doubt that’s going to happen.
Bowl games have been scarce for the Cowboys in recent past. Burman believes this is the breakthrough fans have been waiting for.
“It’s exciting,” he said. “I looked and in 1993, Cowboys went to the Copper Bowl. And then until 2008, 15 years later, they only competed in one bowl game. To go back-to-back is impressive and I tip my hat to coach Bohl and the staff and young men in our program.”
