WHITEFISH – For the second consecutive week, Montana Western guard Brianna King has been named Frontier Conference women’s basketball player of the week. The league announced the news on Monday.
King, who set a program-record with 37 points two weeks ago, led the No. 16 Bulldogs to a split to open conference play. Western defeated Montana Tech 64-56 and pushed defending NAIA runner up Lewis-Clark State, but eventually fell 74-69.
King, the 5-foot-5 junior from Spokane, averaged more eye-popping numbers in the contests. She averaged 27 points, 4.5 steals, four rebounds and two assists against the Orediggers and Warriors. King drilled 19 of 39 field goals, including 4-11 from the 3-point line. She also made 12 of 14 free throws.
In the loss to L-C State, King poured in 30 points.
Lewis-Clark State junior guard Andrew McCowan was named the league’s men’s player of the week. McCowan averaged 27 points, six rebounds, two steals and a block in wins over Montana Western and Montana Tech.
