Tinkle, who is in his fourth season at Oregon State, coached at Montana from 2006-14, where he racked up 158 of his career wins. Tinkle led the Grizzlies to seven winning records and three NCAA Tournament appearances in his eight seasons in Missoula.

Tinkle’s son, Tres, scored 24 points, including a three-quarter court buzzer-butter just before halftime, in the Beavers’ season-opening win.

Tres Tinkle, who was Montana’s two-time Gatorade player of the year while at Missoula Hellgate High School, made eight of his 11 field goal attempts, including a 2-for-3 night from 3-point range. He added six rebounds and two assists in his first game back from a broken wrist that limited him to just six games last season.

Former Billings Skyview standout Kendal Manuel added seven points and six rebounds off the bench.

Oregon State (1-0) is back in action at 9 p.m. (MT) Monday against Wyoming.
