BOZEMAN — The champs are back.

Missoula Sentinel won its second consecutive State AA volleyball championship on Saturday, sweeping Billings Senior 25-13, 25-18, 25-22 for the title at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

Elsa Godwin, the state’s reigning Gatorade Player of the Year, had 11 kills, 13 digs and one ace in the championship match to lead the Spartans. Kylie Frohlich and Shelby Schweyen each had eight kills, and Frohlich added three blocks and 10 digs. Setter Jordyn Schweyen had 29 assists and five blocks, while Sarina Moreno had a match-high 22 digs.

The Broncs, who entered the tournament with an undefeated record under first-year coach Sue Dvorak, also lost to Sentinel in Friday’s undefeated semifinal. Senior bounced back Saturday morning, though, to defeat Helena Capital in the third-place match, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18.

Kola Bad Bear had five kills and six blocks to lead Senior in the championship.
