BOZEMAN — Billings Central is back on top of the Class A volleyball world for the first time since 2009.

The Rams defeated Belgrade 19-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-11 in the state championship match Saturday at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, taking yet another match from their Eastern A division rivals.

Setter Devin Nielsen delivered 50 assists in a balanced offensive attack for Central, which got 18 kills from Olivia Moten-Schell, 15 from Sydney Hawbaker and 12 from Bailey Kufeld in the championship match. Moten-Schell added two blocks for the Rams, while Kufeld contributed 20 digs. Avery Hadley had 21 digs and Christy Cox 20.

Billings Central finished second last season, defeating Belgrade in the third-place match. The Rams then defeated the Panthers for the Eastern A championship this year and again in Friday’s undefeated semifinal.

Bailey Christensen had 16 kills and 17 digs in the championship match to lead Belgrade, which also defeated Corvallis in Saturday’s third-place match, 25-10, 25-16, 25-18.
