BOZEMAN — The Class C state volleyball tournament started Thursday morning at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Eight teams will play as many as 15 matches Thursday, Friday and Saturday, concluding with the championship match at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Gardiner def. Bridger 25-19, 22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-10 (fourth-place match)
Brook Russell had 16 kills, four aces and two blocks to help Gardiner rally past Bridger 25-19, 22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-10 in the fourth-place match of the Class C state volleyball tournament on Friday. With the win, the Bruins advance to Saturday’s 11 a.m. third-place match, where they’ll play Belt for a right to meet Ennis for the state championship.
Kyndra Long added 14 kills and a match-high six blocks for Gardiner, and Sage Cowley led the way with 46 assists and 27 digs.
Ennis def. Belt 25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-5 (undefeated semifinal)
Ennis’ front-court duo of Jourdain Klein and Danyel Martin showed up big in the undefeated semifinal of the State C volleyball tournament, helping the Mustangs to a 25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-5 win over Belt. Ennis lost to the Huskies in last year’s state championship.
Klein finished with 24 kills, three blocks and eight digs, and Martin had 19 kills, five blocks and five aces to move Ennis within one match of the state title. Payton Fortner added 31 assists and 11 digs, and Whitney McKitrick had 15 assists and two aces.
Belt, which got 12 kills and 15 digs from Adrian Malek and 28 assists and two aces from Kolby Pimperton, will play in the third-place match Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner of that match will meet Ennis for the title at 1 p.m.
Bridger def. Roy-Winifred 25-23, 25-19, 25-18
For the second time in as many weeks, the Bridger volleyball team swept Roy-Winifred, this time in a loser-out contest at the State C volleyball tournament. The Scouts won 25-23, 25-19, 25-18 just one week after another sweep in the Southern C divisional tournament.
Jessica Adkins had 14 kills, Bridger recorded 43 kills as a team, and Cara White had 12 digs and three aces to lead the Scouts into the fourth-place match on Friday at 8 p.m. Bridger meets Gardiner, the No. 2 seed from the Western C in the contest.
Gardiner def. Great Falls Central 20-25, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-7
Gardiner rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Great Falls Central in five sets, 20-25, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-7, in loser-out action at the State C volleyball tournament.
Brook Russell (15), Kyndra Long (12) and Sage Cowley (10) combined for 37 kills to pace the Bruins, who will play another loser-out match at 8 p.m. Friday. Cowley added 33 assists and 30 digs in the win.
Bridger def. Scobey 25-22, 25-17, 25-13
Desiree Scott had 13 kills, seven digs and two aces to help Bridger to a 25-22, 25-17, 25-13 sweep over Scobey in a loser-out match Friday at the State C volleyball tournament. Jessica Adkins added 12 kills and two blocks for the Scouts, who will play Roy-Winifred in another loser-out match Friday at 4 p.m.
Great Falls Central def. Wibaux 25-17, 25-15, 25-21
Great Falls Central extended its season with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-21 win over Wibaux in loser-out action Friday morning. Bryn Anderson recorded 12 kills and three blocks to help Great Falls Central to the sweep. The Mustangs will play Gardiner in another loser-out match Friday at 2 p.m.
