BOZEMAN — The Class B state volleyball tournament started Thursday morning at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Eight teams will play as many as 15 matches Thursday, Friday and Saturday, concluding with the championship match at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Florence def. Jefferson 21-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-14, 15-10 (fourth-place match)

Sarah Hopcroft had 21 kills and two blocks as Florence rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Jefferson 21-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-14, 15-10 in the fourth-place match of the State B volleyball tournament on Friday.

Shannon Byrne added 14 kills and two blocks for the Falcons, who will play Joliet at 11 a.m. in Saturday’s third-place match. The Florence-Joliet winner will meet Huntley Project for the state title at 1 p.m.

Huntley Project def. Joliet 25-8, 25-11, 25-14 (undefeated semifinal)

Huntley Project has looked like the Class B favorite all volleyball season, and the Red Devils emphasized their standing as the team to beat with another dominant win in the undefeated semifinal of the state tournament on Friday. Huntley Project got its third sweep of the tournament, running past Joliet 25-8, 25-11, 25-14.

Alana Graves had 11 kills and two blocks, Ashton Albrecht added eight kills and Mollee Krum had six. Heidi Cranford contributed 19 assists and two aces.

Makenna Bushman had five kills and one ace to lead Joliet, which will play in the third-place match Saturday at 11 a.m. Huntley Project will play the winner of the third-place match in the championship at 1 p.m.

Jefferson def. Shelby 25-22, 25-16, 25-12

Aubrey McMaster had 21 assists, four digs and an ace as Jefferson raced past Shelby in straight sets at the State B volleyball tournament on Friday. The Panthers won 25-22, 25-16, 25-12 in the loser-out match.

Emily McGinnis had 14 kills and the Panthers tallied nine blocks, four from Simonie Mendenhall, to keep Jefferson’s season alive. The No. 4 seed from the Southern B faces Florence in a fourth-place match on Friday at 8 p.m.

Florence def. Three Forks 25-22, 25-22, 25-21

Since suffering a first-round upset loss on Thursday, Florence has dominated two loser-out matches at the State B volleyball tournament. The Falcons earned their second sweep Friday, defeating Three Forks 25-22, 25-22, 25-21.

Sarah Hopcroft put down 14 kills as the Falcons extended their season with the win. They’ll next play another loser-out match Friday at 8 p.m.

Shelby def. Eureka 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13

Shelby outlasted Eureka in a five-set thriller, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13, to stay alive at the State B volleyball tournament. The Coyotes won the Friday morning loser-out match thanks to a balanced offensive attack at the net: Bailey Johnson had 10 kills and Brittany Brusven and Brook Luly each added nine.

Shelby will play Jefferson in another loser-out match Friday at 4 p.m.

Florence def. Fairfield 25-14, 25-18, 25-21

Florence bounced back from a first-round upset to sweep Fairfield 25-14, 25-18, 25-21 in a loser-out match Friday morning at the State B volleyball tournament. The Falcons entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed from the West, but lost a first-round match to Jefferson, the fourth seed from the South.

Rilee Mangun had 13 kills for the Falcons, who limited Fairfield to just 23 kills as a team on Friday. Florence will now play Three Forks in another loser-out match Friday at 2 p.m.
