BOZEMAN — The Class A state volleyball tournament started Thursday morning at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Eight teams will play as many as 15 matches Thursday, Friday and Saturday, concluding with the championship match at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Corvallis def. Libby 25-22, 17-25, 21-25, 25-13, 15-11 (fourth-place match)

Kate Hurlburt had 39 assists, 18 digs and a trio of aces as Corvallis bounced back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Libby in the fourth-place match at the State A volleyball tournament on Friday evening. The Loggers were eliminated with the loss.

Hurlburt joined Casey Fison (19) and Maureen Jessop (18) in tallying 55 of the Blue Devil’s 80 digs. Jessop had a team-high 14 kills for Corvallis, which lost each statistical category but blocks in the match. Isabel Evans had five of the 10 blocks for the Blue Devils.

Corvallis, the No. 1 seed from the Western A, advances to Saturday morning’s third-place match. The Blue Devils meet Belgrade at 11 a.m. with the winner meeting Billings Central for the State A championship at 1 p.m.

Billings Central def. Belgrade 29-27, 25-19, 25-23

Olivia Moten-Schell (12), Bailey Kufeld (11) and Sydney Hawbaker (10) combined for 33 kills to help Billings Central to a 29-27, 25-19, 25-23 sweep of Belgrade in the undefeated semifinal of the State A volleyball tournament on Friday.

Devin Nielsen recorded 28 assists and 22 digs for the Rams, who entered the tournament as the East’s No. 1 seed after defeating Belgrade for the division championship last week. Avery Hadley had 34 digs for Central.

Belgrade was led by Bailey Christensen’s 17 kills and two blocks. The Panthers will play in the third-place match Saturday at 11 a.m. Central will meet the winner of that match in the championshp at 1 p.m.

Libby def. Whitefish 18-25, 13-25, 25-16, 25-19, 15-5

Mehki Sykes recorded 21 kills, one better than teammate Brooklyn Rainer, as Libby rallied past Whitefish in five sets at the State A volleyball tournament on Friday. The Loggers defeated the Bulldogs 18-25, 13-25, 25-16, 25-19, 15-5 in the loser-out contest.

Alli Collins had 52 of 54 assists for Libby, which advances to meet Western A foe Corvallis in the fourth-place match on Friday night at 8 p.m.

Corvallis def. Lewistown 25-21, 25-22, 25-15

Hannah Hutchison put down 12 kills, Charlotte Powell had five blocks and five kills, and Casey Fison had 15 digs and three aces as Corvallis cruised to a 25-21, 25-22, 25-15 sweep over Lewistown in loser-out action at the State A volleyball tournament.

The Blue Devils, who entered the tournament as the West’s No. 1 seed, will play another loser-out match Friday at 8 p.m.

Whitefish def. Glendive 25-22, 14-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12

Cailyn Ross had match-highs of 24 kills and six blocks to help lead Whitefish to a five-set, 25-22, 14-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12 win over Glendive in loser-out action Friday at the State A volleyball tournament. Ross also added two aces in the win.

Marlee Bender contributed 12 kills and Serena Hemmingson 27 digs for the Bulldogs, who will play Libby in a loser-out match Friday at 4 p.m.

Lewistown def. Stevensville 25-23, 25-21, 28-26

Anna Zimmer had 15 kills and two aces and Bailey Collins had 14 digs and three aces as Lewistown defeated Stevensville 25-23, 25-21, 28-26 in a Friday morning loser-out match at the State A volleyball tournament.

With the win, Lewistown extends its stay at the state tournament and will play Corvallis in another loser-out match Friday at 2 p.m.
