BILLINGS – PORTLAND, Ore. – On Friday the Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced their 2017 all-academic roster which featured six members of the Montana State University Billings cross country team.
Four women led the way for the Yellowjackets with Bailey Bomar making the team for the third time and Sarah Beatty earning the honor for the second consecutive season. Bomar has a 3.33 grade point average while studying psychology at MSUB and Beatty has earned a 3.3 during her time in the outdoor adventure leadership program.
For the men, Jorey Egeland and Ivan Colmenero both received the nod after making the team last year as well. Egeland is pursuing a degree in biology and currently holds a 3.44 GPA. While studying criminal justice, Colmenero has earned a 3.28 GPA during his time at MSUB.
“We always strive to not only compete on the course but in the classroom,” head coach Jonathan Woehl said of his athletes. “It’s great to see Bailey make the team all three years and to have Sarah, Jorey and Ivan make it for the second time.”
Catrina Schuchard led all ‘Jackets with her 3.87 grade point average in pre-professional Nursing and Josey Smiedala also received the honor as she studies public relations with a 3.26.
The conference had nine student-athletes maintain a 4.0 GPA while competing in cross country this season. The six ‘Jackets joined 97 other GNAC performers on the team. Student-athletes must have sophomore standing or better, be in their second year competing for their institution and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better.
