BOZEMAN — The Class AA state volleyball tournament started Thursday morning at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Eight teams will play as many as 15 matches Thursday, Friday and Saturday, concluding with the championship match at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Billings Senior def. Helena Capital 25-20, 25-15, 25-20

Billings Senior and Missoula Sentinel will meet in a much-anticipated undefeated semifinal match after the top-ranked and undefeated Broncs swept by Helena Capital 25-20, 25-15, 25-20 in the State AA volleyball quarterfinal round Thursday at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

Raegan Stiener led the Broncs with 18 kills and two aces, while Kola Bad Bear contributed nine kills and Kelsey Sargent seven kills and 10 digs. Jordan Gilcrist had a match-high 17 digs. Senior and Sentinel, the defending state champion, will meet in Friday’s undefeated semifinal at 6 p.m.

Sarah Ashley (six), Katie Culver (five) and Dani Bartsch (five) combined for 16 kills for the Bruins. Helena Capital will play a loser-out match Friday at 2 p.m.

Missoula Sentinel def. Helena High 25-14, 25-20, 25-18

Missoula Sentinel is two straight wins away from another Class AA state volleyball championship after the Lady Spartans swept Helena High in Thursday’s quarterfinal round.

Jordyn Schweyen paced the Sentinel offense with 35 of the team’s 37 assists, 15 ending in kills for Elsa Godwin. Godwin added three aces, tied for the team-high with Sarina Marino who also chipped in with 12 digs.

Helena High’s defense had 13 blocks, 11 from Jamie Pickens in the middle, but the Lady Bengals were outscored in the kill department 37-19.

Sentinel advances to the undefeated semifinal Friday at 6 p.m. The Lady Spartans await the winner of Billings Senior and Helena Capital. Helena High falls to loser-out action and will meet the winner of Kalispell Glacier and Billings West on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Helena Capital def. Billings West 25-16, 25-20, 25-20

Audrey Hofer tallied 21 assists and four aces as Helena Capital swept past Billings West into the Class AA quarterfinals at the state tournament. The Lady Bruins won 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 to advance.

Capital received 18 digs from Dani Bartsch and 17 more from Sarah Ashley, as the Lady Bruins set up a quarterfinal showdown against top-ranked Billings Senior at 8 p.m. The Lady Broncs have yet to drop a match this season.

Taylor Larsen had 20 assists and Catherine Follett had a team-high 13 kills for West, which falls to loser-out action. The Lady Bears meet Kalispell Glacier on Friday at noon.

Billings Senior def. Kalispell Glacier 25-15, 25-9, 25-22

Top-ranked Billings Senior moved one step closer to the team’s goal of another Class AA state championship on Thursday afternoon as the Lady Broncs swept Kalispell Glacier 25-15, 25-9, 25-22.

Jordan Gilcrist, Kelsey Sargent and Raegan Steiner had nine digs each for the Senior defense, while Kola Bad Bear led the Lady Broncs with 11 kills. Courtney Bad Bear had 13 of the team’s 30 assists in the sweep.

Senior advances to Friday night’s 8 p.m. quarterfinal against the winner of Billings West and Helena Capital. Kalispell Glacier will face the loser of that match on Friday at noon. Ashley Montini had 21 assists and two blocks for Glacier in the loss.

Helena High def. Bozeman 25-21, 25-15, 25-22

Abby Marcille and Jamie Pickens combined for 20 kills and 10 blocks as Helena High swept past Bozeman 25-21, 25-15, 25-22 in Thursday’s opening round of the Class AA state volleyball tournament.

Marcille recorded 11 kills to lead the Lady Bengals, who entered as the Western AA’s No. 3 seed. Emily Feller chipped in with 27 of the team’s 30 assists, as Helena high gets set for a quarterfinal match against defending champion Missoula Sentinel at 6 p.m.

Cassie Rosa had 23 assists and two kills for Bozeman, which falls to the loser-out bracket. The Lady Hawks face Great Falls High Friday morning at 10 a.m.

Missoula Sentinel def. Great Falls High 25-8, 25-17, 25-17

Defending Gatorade player of the year Elsa Godwin had 10 kills, Jordyn Schweyen added 36 assists and four players chipped in with two blocks each as Missoula Sentinel swept past Great Falls High 25-8, 25-17, 25-17 in the opening round of the Class AA state volleyball tournament.

Missoula Sentinel, the defending champion, advances to meet the  Helena High  in the 6 p.m. quarterfinal.

Great Falls High was led by Danielle Devlin’s seven kills and three assists. The Lady Bison meet the Bozeman in a Friday 10 a.m. loser-out contest.
