Hamilton, under first-year coach Bryce Carver, capped its regular season with a 32-28 win at defending champion Dillon to win the Southwestern A championship. The Broncs have now won seven consecutive games after an early-season loss to Columbia Falls. Voters in the high school football polls are certainly impressed, vaulting Hamilton to the top spot in the Class A rankings.

The Broncs replace previous No. 1 Dillon, which fell to third behind Columbia Falls. Eastern A teams Billings Central and Sidney round out the Class A top five.

Voters also made a change atop the 6-Man rankings, where undefeated Westby-Grenora leap-frogged fellow unbeaten Valier. Those have been the top two teams all season (in some order), but the Thunder will have the No. 1 ranking heading into the 6-Man playoffs. Valier is second, followed by Bridger, White Sulphur Springs and Wibaux.

Billings Senior (Class AA), Eureka (Class B) and Forsyth (8-Man) maintained their holds on their respective No. 1 rankings. All three teams are undefeated this season and have No. 1 seeds in their playoff brackets. Senior and Eureka won the 2016 titles and will have home-field advantage throughout the 2017 playoffs.
