BELT – The Belt defense shut out Centerville as the Huskies cruised to a 26-0 win in the de facto 8-Man North football championship game Friday.
The two teams won their respective sub-divisions in the 8-Man North to set up Friday’s pairing: the winner clinching the North’s No. 1 seed for the playoffs and the loser falling to the No. 2 seed.
Belt, which had previously beaten Centerville this season, got rushing touchdowns from Troy Hennes, Keagan Stroop, Hunter Vogl and Trey Heitzman in Friday’s win. The Huskies put two touchdowns on the board in both the first and third quarters.
Belt improves to 8-0 on the season, while Centerville falls to 6-2. Choteau also clinched a playoff berth with a 64-20 win over Fort Benton.
In the 8-Man West, Drummond-Philipsburg handed Charlo its first loss of the season to secure the West’s No. 1 seed for the state playoffs.
Both the Titans and Vikings entered Friday’s game with unblemished records after winning their respective sub-divisions, but it was Drummond-Philipsburg that emerged with a 46-28 win. The Titans built a 22-8 lead at half on a Colton Grange-to-Jaxon Lee touchdown, and they wouldn’t trail the rest of the way.
Grange and Lee hooked up for three touchdowns, and Grange added another two on the ground. Lee also returned a punt 64 yards for a score in the fourth quarter to help put the game away.
Drummond-Philipsburg improves to 8-0 on the season and will be the West’s No. 1 seed for the playoffs. Charlo, which lost in last year’s state championship, falls to 7-1 and will be the league’s No. 2 seed.
Arlee and Plains also clinched playoff berths with Friday wins. Those teams will meet next week to determine their seeds.
The state playoffs begin Oct. 28.
